Good post, Ira.

I was there - at the demonstrations. In fact, I was the organizer of the counter-protest and I confirm that what you wrote is accurate, at least up until the time I had had enough of the Trumpian vitriol and left. That was before the confrontation in front of the coronavirus sign that you describe so vividly.

I had conversations - sort of - with some of the Trump supporters and was struck by several things. One is their attempt to dominate - it's playground bully stuff. Another is refusal to listen to anything that doesn't perfectly comport with their opinions - fingers in ears stuff. You can read my account of those conversations and the demonstrations in general at https://bit.ly/2GkQlTx. And you (Ira) can find a link to your post in my September 30 post at https://bit.ly/3l4v2Vx. All are welcome to subscribe - it's a freebie.

Yikes ... some of the comments, in response to a great article, Irv, are rather unsettling. My take is it's Impossible to convince, satisfy or debate deniers. Keep up the good work and long live Northbrook's public forum.

Dolores McElroy......your misleading comments on Goodman's facebook page failed to mention the facts about Biden and the KKK. Instead you focused only on the tasty ice cream. Biden has past history of honoring KKK members and he authored the KKK inspired Crime Bill in 1994. Tell the truth lady, I bet you love ice cream. Fat so? I don't know?

Thank You Lee Goodman.

Irv Leavitt, your description is biased and untrue. I was there. Holding an American flag. And after a while I decided to push the cross walk button and walk across the street. I was wearing a mask and carrying the American flag. Peter and many others came with me. We got tired of standing and decided to walk in a square around the intersection. When we came to the corner with the sign and the women on their knees and fists in the air, you forgot to mention how they were blaring a horn and a police siren. You forgot to mention the people who tried to block me and others for walking on a public sidewalk carrying the American flag. You forgot to mention the so called “Peaceful” Anti-Trump, Pro-Biden protesters who repeatedly swore at me and my junior high son “F-ck You, F-ck You” over and over again. I was called a racist and a Nazi and other vile names. I was pushed and shoved and blocked from walking on a public sidewalk. And for what reason? Because I came out and practiced my first amendment right of free speech. And our group was more than just HS kids. There were many adults. And nobody had any goal or intention of damaging Lee’s political sign. I have to tell you Irv, I’m disappointed with you on this issue. You’ve written fairly about things I’ve been involved in in the past such as the Walmart proposal. But your version of reality was far from truthful. And they way that you wrote this article, explaining you’re being tipped off by Lee is all the evidence anyone needs. If you are going to report fairly and balanced then do it. Don’t pretend to do it with a wink, wink. And I will say again. I have a right to stand in support of any candidate. I have a right to carry the American flag. I have a right to walk down a public sidewalk carrying that flag. And you have the right to a different opinion then mine. But you don’t have the right to make up your own narrative and add or subtract your own facts as you see fit.

The best way to describe Lee is to liken him to having a Pyromaniac here in Northbrook. For the uninformed, "Pyromania is a rare, pathological disorder characterized by intentional and repeated fire setting. People with pyromania are deeply fascinated by fire and related paraphernalia. They may experience feelings of satisfaction or a release of built-up inner tension or anxiety once a fire is set." As a licensed mental health professional I truly believe that Lee's Covid Death sign is the "fire" he intentionally set and he relishes the attention he is getting from his actions. He constructs a clearly divisive sign to get attention for himself (but says it’s to call attention to there number of COVID deaths) and then makes provocative posts about his sign on social media, posts half truths about events that never occurred and stands off in the distance as he did last night in front of the Metra Station watching his “fire” burn. He refuses to engage anyone other than those who support his position and drinks up the “atta boy Lee” posts on social media. The clinical diagnosis for what Lee suffers from is most likely Histrionic personality disorder (HPD) and is characterized by a long-standing pattern of attention seeking behavior. My suggestion is that Lee seek treatment for his histrionic personality disorder. It typically involves long-term psychotherapy with a therapist that has experience in treating this kind of personality disorder. Medications may also be prescribed to help with specific troubling and debilitating symptoms. Good luck to you Lee.

That is right out of the Soviet playbook -- to force a psychiatric diagnosis on a dissident. Your post raises serious doubts about your professional integrity and competence. If you are a licensed mental health professional, your license should be revoked. Medical licenses should not be used as weapons against people with whom you disagree on politics.

I read most of the comments and am fascinated by a doctor diagnosing Lee Goodman as a pyromaniac without ever having examined him - or even so much as having said hello.

Your response to a commenter in this thread, doc, is, "My post was not political, it was a professional medical assessment of a severely mentally ill individual." You know this without ever having examined him? What is the DSM diagnosis of someone who would pretend to diagnose with such presumed clairvoyance as yours?

And your personal attack on that commenter and her husband - what was that? It's sick and you know that from your training. What is it - barely suppressed victim psychopathy? Didn't get enough daddy love? Whatever your issues, you know it's wrong to take them out on innocents.

If you don't like what Lee Goodman did, just say so and say why you don't like it. But leave your "mental healthcare diagnosis from afar" out of the discussion, as well as your personal attacks.

Unless, of course, it's your intention to throw gasoline on the fire, as a pyromaniac might do.

Is that your professional diagnosis Faye? My post was not political, it was a professional medical assessment of a severely mentally ill individual. Just curious Faye, where did you go to medical school? Oh, that's right, you don't work for a living, you just wait for your ambulance chaser husband to sue innocent Dr's and live off the winnings while at the same time raising insurance premiums and making overall medical case more expensive for the rest of us. You must be so proud to be married to a Vulture. (BTW, did you notice that you are all ALONE on this thread? You're only one defending a mentally ill individual)

Goodman is a coward. If anyone without a mask came near him, he backed away in fear and would not talk. Goodman's BLM and hatefulled supporters, were mostly high school girls who would walk up to Trump supporters and taunt them with signs spouting racist and homophobic names. Including the granddaughters of movie maker John Hughes, who have previously promoted KILLING POLICE on their social media accounts. These girls were never threatened nor did they feel any intimidation. They kneeled in some sort of Nazi Black power salute to show support for compliance. The Trump supporters would engage with questions about their signage, but none of these teenagers had a meaningful reply.

No one should approach anyone without a mask! What’s wrong with you?

if someone is 10 feet away, why insult them by saying "stay away."

It’s not an insult to respect boundaries and science. Trump supporters respect neither.

10 feet lady, the CDC says 6 feet is OK. If someone is 10 feet away and you're saying "stay away" it's an insult, a political statement or just pure hatred. Take your pick, lady.

truth is, the mask is a Nazi-like compliance for leftists. It's sick and disturbing the way you people act. Fake a pandemic, ruin businesses and scare the hell out of people. Shame on you, go to hell.

I was there as well and my daughter, proudly , was one who came and sat to protect the scoreboard once the angry mob rushed to attempt to vandalize it. I walked o er to make sure she was ok and was met by hateful rhetoric by the mean spirited Trump flag holding teenagers. The ringleader and organizer, Peter Christos, could offer nothing of substance, and told me that Democratic women had penises. This is the “ character” shown by these model GBN citizens and other Trump supporters. No surprise. It makes me sad that we have such ignorance in this Village, taught by parents who condone and foster. I am proud of those who stand up against such unfettered cultism and stupidity.

Nobody rushed to vandalize the sign. The crowd moved to a different corner just to break-up the evening. The BLM girls also switched corners in the final hours of the rally. This was a Trump Rally, organized by Peter. And yes, the anti-Trump girls said that women have penises too as they lambasted the Trump supporters for being anti-LGBTQ They were vile and provocative.

And for your info, when these thugs moved to the Village Green, they shouted out slurs to us as we walked to our cars. Lots of “ character” in these Trump waving hooligans. Their parents ARE probably proud of the shameful creeps they have raised.

I was there. Lee Goodman is a lair. None of the Trump supporters said anything about the KKK. Goodman also hid near the train station until around 8:30pm when the crowd lessened. His group members hurled insults and wished death upon Trump supporter as Goodman stood silent.

Pardon me, but I heard the KKK statement, in person, over the megaphone. And as I wrote, Goodman was indeed near the train station, and I wrote why. He was in plain sight of the little band of Republicans.

Irv, You're a Goodman sycophant. That's ok, to be leftist partisan for Goodman, just stop pretending to be balanced. Who reads this stuff, expect Lee and his lemmings.

There are no KKK members or support in northbrook, period. Stop with that BS. Yes, Biden is a supporter of KKK, via his love and admiration of Senator Robert Byrd, or Biden's crime bill, which imprisoned thousands of Blacks.

Expand full comment

Excuse me, but ‘Biden is KKK’ was a slogan shouted over the megaphone on two different instances. (Biden has apologized for the harmful components of the crime bill therefore he cannot be deemed a KKK supporter, nor was he ever a supporter)

Expand full comment

Maybe I missed the KKK stuff. I might have been getting a Graeter's ice cream , but I heard a lot of name calling from the wackos. I'm sure it was prompted by them. And besides, Biden's ties to the KKK and Senator Robert Byrd are true. He might have apologized for imprisoning Blacks but tell those who rotted in jail, because of his 47-years of racist policies. But who cares, Biden has dementia today and is not qualified to be dog-catcher.
